Testi Coffee
Bishan Wate is a washing station in Guji, southern Ethiopia, located near the Wate River. Around 50 smallholder farmers contributed cherry to this Special Prep lot, bringing their harvest from farms across the surrounding highlands. The coffee here grows at elevations between 1,900 and 2,350 metres above sea level.
The station is owned and operated by Testi Coffee, a family-run Ethiopian coffee company founded by Faysel A. Yonis in 2009. Faysel grew up around coffee and began buying coffee from local farmers while still young, before developing Testi into a network of washing stations focused on specialty coffee.
Bishan Wate was established in 2021 as one of Testi's premium processing sites. Farmers from communities around the station, including Buku Seyisa, Wade Suke and Tirtira Goyo, deliver cherry during harvest. Testi separates coffees from different communities to improve traceability and maintain greater control over quality.
Bishan Wate represents Testi's focus on careful cherry selection, separation and traceability within Guji. Rather than relying on experimental processing, the station's approach centres on careful preparation and expressing the character of coffees grown by the surrounding smallholder communities.
