Hario Switch

14 g coffee (700 µm – Comandante 24 Clix / 48 Red Clix) • 220 g water • 92 °C • Total 2:20–2:40

  1. 00:00

    Bloom — 50 g, switch open

5 circles clockwise, finish in the center

    Unlocks aroma & starts extraction.

  2. 00:40

Immersion — close switch, pour to 135 g

    Pour in 5–10 sec.

    Builds body & sweetness.

  3. 01:20

    Drawdown — open switch

Clarity emerges as the bed settles.

  4. 01:40

    Final pour — to 220 g

    Same 5-circle motion, finish center.

    Target finish at 2:20–2:40.

  1. 00:00

    Bloom — 50 g

    Second pour — to 150 g

Pour steady, in circles, avoiding the walls.

    Builds structure and sweetness.

    Balances body and clarity.

Pro Tips

  • Grind size: Medium-fine is ideal.
    • finer → more body & strength (watch bitterness).
    • coarser → cleaner but can taste thin.
  • Temperature: ~92 °C.
    • hotter → boosts acidity
    • cooler → softens and highlights sweetness.
  • Brew ratio: Standard range is ~1:15 to 1:17 (coffee : water).
    • more coffee = stronger, more body
    • more water = lighter, cleaner
  • Roast level: Light roasts need finer grind & hotter water to unlock flavor.
    • light roasts prefer finer grind / 93–94 °C
    • medium-dark extracts easily. Try a bit coarser or 90–91 °C.
